Description / Synopsis
Notes about the timeline of the novel Laughing Whitefish. Based on an actual court case from the 1880s, the novel recounts the struggle of an Ojibwe woman, Laughing Whitefish (also known as Charlotte Kawbawgam), to claim the money owed to her by an iron mining company. Her father, Marji-Gesick, had given the location of iron ore deposits to the founders of the Jackson Mining Company in the 1840s. |
