Description / Synopsis
A William A. Holmes & Son logging crew has just finished loading a narrow gauge railway car, probably somewhere east of the Michigamme River in the mid-1880s. William A. Holmes is standing fourth from the left in front of the carload of logs. Tom King, a Chippewa Indian who lived in and around Dickinson County for many years, is seated on the log, holding his hat against his leg with his left hand. The lumberjack behind King with his foot resting on the log and a cant hook over his left shoulder is Patrick “Paddy” Costigan. |
