Peter Mongiat Oral History Transcript, undated

Peter Mongiat (born 1925) gives a second-hand account of the Barnes-Hecker disaster and the death of his father, also named Peter Mongiat, in the mine. He describes his father's work history, how his mother learned that his father had died, compensation, his own experiences in mining, his views on why the mine collapsed, his memories of the lone survivor Wilfred Wills, warning signs of the disaster, efforts to recover the bodies, and the memorial to the victims.
