About

The Chippewa County Historical Society (CCHS) is a nonprofit organization committed to the preservation and presentation of the history and culture of Chippewa County and Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. It was established in 1919 and has installed area historic markers and published pamphlets, oral histories, and books on local history. CCHS promotes public awareness of local history by sponsoring artistic and cultural activities such as photo displays, hosting meeting with speakers on various topics, and providing programs and displays at historic Water Street homes. CCHS also operates a History Center where people encounter, explore, and learn about the past.
