Description / Synopsis
Photograph of the Chapin Mine's Cornish pumping engine in Iron Mountain that began operation January 3, 1893. The pump had a capacity of 191,400 gallons per hour, or 4,593,600 gallons in 24 hours. "Pump Chapin Mine" is printed on the photograph. Probably dating to October, 1912, this interior view of the pump house shows the Cornish pumping engine at C Ludington Shaft of the Chapin Mine, where it remains.
