William Rogers Oral History Interview, 1994-10-17

Interview of William Rogers (born 1924) regarding his service in the Army during World War II. Rogers describes his family background, his memories and experiences of the start of the war when he was still in high school, and deciding to enlist in the Army. He goes into great detail about his paratrooper training, the injuries that got him transferred into a combat engineering unit, and anecdotes of missions and combat experiences, especially in Saint-Nazaire. He explains how his experiences traumatized him and how the military exposed him to many different people, and he gives his opinions on various allied and enemy groups as well as military and political leaders. He also mentions partying with Russian soldiers at the end of the war, his occupation duty after the war, meeting people who had just been liberated from concentration camps, his memory of the atomic bomb, and volunteering to fight in the Korean War.
