About

This collection consists of a single item: a video created by Steve Mitchell at the end of his term as a member of the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees. Mitchell graduated from Northern in 1967. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2012 and served on the board from 2013 to 2021. He describes other board members that he served with as well as members of Northern's administration and lists accomplishments during his time on the board.

Topics include the renaming of Harden Hall and Weston Hall, the selection of Fritz Erickson as president, new sports programs and logos, new buildings, the establishment of the Native American Studies and Medicinal Plant Chemistry programs, spreading WiFi in the Upper Peninsula, the creation of FROST (Forensic Research Outdoor Station) and the BEAR (Behavior Education Assessment and Research) Center, a strategic reallocation assessment, and the university's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also speaks briefly about his time as a student at Northern in the 1960s, the enrollment spike and campus expansion of the 1960s, and Edgar Harden's "Right to Try" policy.
