Description / Synopsis
Interview of Milton Erickson regarding how World War II affected his daily life as a teenager in Michigan. Erickson discusses his memories of Pearl Harbor, rationing, exchanging food with neighbors, the end of the war, and transportation issues during the war. Another major topic was his job in a foundry that made parts for military vehicles and labor shortages that caused people, including African Americans, to move north for jobs at the foundry. Erickson concludes the interview by talking about his time in the Navy during the late 1940s and early 1950s, including constructing a United Nations headquarters on Truk Island, life in the Pacific, his time stationed at Atsugi Naval Air Station in Japan, and his experiences in Japan and working with Japanese people. |
