Source: The Mining Journal, Marquette Mi., November 13, 1886, Saturday Reporting for Duty The division engineers of The DSS and A [Duluth, South Shore, and Atlantic Railway Company] are arriving in the city day by day and preparing to begin work under Mr. Latcha's directions. One party has already been organized and it is now securing its supplies, etc., preparatory to a start Saturday or Monday. Packers have been employed and the party will begin work near Three Lakes. A second party will also start in on the western extension, on which the work is to be crowded as rapidly as possible. A number of railway contractors have put in an appearance in the city and it is supposed that they are here to figure on subcontracts from Brown, Howard and Co. No sub-ontracts have as yet been let and it is not known when they will be. The work of prime importance now is the speedy location of the locating party.
