Hiawatha Music Cooperative Records

About

The Hiawatha Music Cooperative is a non-profit organization that organizes the annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival in Tourist Park in Marquette, Michigan. The festival began in 1979. The Co-op also runs other music events throughout the year and gives out scholarships.

"Festival Recordings" are a selection of digitized reel-to-reel audio recordings of "In the Pines," a folk music radio show produced by WNMU-FM radio and hosted by local musician Bill Hart. The collection is not a comprehensive representation of all Festival concert performances by individual musicians or musical groups. The quality of the recordings vary as a result of poor recording technique or inexpensive recording tape. The analog collection available at the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives also contains more audio recordings, festival posters, planning materials, meeting minutes, and more. The collection is not fully processed. Please contact the archives for more information.
