David Williams was a student at Northern Michigan University in the late 1960s. He led a sit-in in Dean Alan Niemi's office in December 1969. Marquette County charged Williams and five other African American students (Pat Williams, Vernon Smalls, Christopher Poole, Loren Lobban, and Phillip Harper) with trespassing and kidnapping. The "Trial of the Marquette Six," as the press called it, ended in a mistrial. In this interview with University Archivist Marcus Robyns, Williams discusses the sit-in and the trial.
