Description / Synopsis
This aerial view of the site looking northeast shows the foundations of piers 17 through 22. These were the piers that were the deepest and those which support the entire suspension part of the bridge structure. Note the causeway sticking out into the straits in the upper left of the photo. this was a part of a failed attempt to build a bridge at an earlier time. It is now a part of the northern end of the Mackinac Bridge. (1) |
