This collection consists of photographs, newspaper clippings, and flyers that document a variety of small businesses in Thompson Township, Schoolcraft County, Michigan, including boarding houses in the nineteenth and early twentieth century and a general store. Some of the boarding houses were company housing for the North Shore Lumber Company. Lumbering was the major industry in Thompson from the 1880s to the 1920s. The bulk of the items come from the later twentieth century and document the rise of the tourism.
