Old Iroquois Hotel, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Cyanotype photograph of the old (first) Iroquois Hotel, looking south across Portage Avenue. This hotel was dismantled at Mullet Lake and reassembled at this spot by W. C. Smith. It burned down in 1898, and the new Iroquois Hotel was erected on the same spot. House to left is George Kemp's home, while that to right of hotel is W. C. Smith's residence. The white house is the George Brown (first mayor, 1886) home, occupied at the time of photograph by Tryoer. Photograph taken from boat that was passing in the Weitzel Lock.
