About
Painesdale Mine and Shaft, located in Painesdale, Houghton County, Michigan, is dedicated to preserving the Champion Mine #4 Shafthouse as well as buildings, objects, and documents related to the Champion Mining Company and the town of Painesdale. They are a site of the Keweenaw National Historic Park. Their digital collections include Justice of the Peace records for Adams Township from 1876-1881, Atlantic Mining Company invoices from 1879, records related to Painesdale Mine and Shaft’s own preservation and education efforts, and (with the Copper Range Historical Society/Museum) an extensive collection of records documenting the Copper Range Company from 1898 to 1966.
