Description / Synopsis
Mary Ann Mongiat St. Andre (born 1909) discusses her family, immigrating to the Upper Peninsula from Italy as a small child, growing up in North Lake, her education in North Lake and Ishpeming, recreation, chores, living conditions and daily life, being raised by her siblings after her mother died in the flu epidemic and her father died in the mine, ethnic groups and languages in the area, tuberculosis and medical care, her memories of the Barnes-Hecker disaster and of strikes, and attending nursing school in Grand Rapids. |
