Au Train Regional Documents Collection
About
The Au Train hydroelectric project is located on the Au Train River in Alger County, Michigan upstream of Au Train Lake. The dam was originally built in 1910, and embankment dams were built in 1930. At some point, it was owned by the Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO). UP Hydro, LLC (part of Renewable World Energies, LLC) purchased the dam from UPPCO in July 2010. This collection is an artificial collection of digital government documents put together by the Lydia Olson Library at Northern Michigan University and made accessible online by the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives. The original documents are not available at the archives.
This collection consists of documents relating to the hydroelectric project in Au Train, its possible environmental impact on the area, and the fishery in the Au Train area. A large portion of the collection relates to public concern over a proposed Shoreline Management Plan created by the Upper Peninsula Power Company in 2007.
