Description / Synopsis
Essay by John Marra for HS 211 arguing that World War II had little to no effect on the iron ore industry in Marquette County. The essay compares the industry during the 1920s "iron ore boom" and the Great Depression era with the industry during the war. He then details the steadiness of the industry during the war, the importance of steel for the war effort, the decline of production post-war, and the strengthening of the unions. His thesis is partially at odds with the rest of his paper, which arguably proves that the war did indeed have an impact on the iron ore industry. |
