Spies Library Book Trunk Program Scrapbook

Helena LeFevre, the librarian at Spies Public Library, created a book trunk program to bring books to many locations around Menominee County in the late 1910s. The program is believed to be the first of its kind in the Upper Peninsula. The scrapbook, which documents the start of the program, contains pictures, financial records, letters, library bulletins, newspaper clippings, and a journal written by Helena LeFevre during her travels to set up the book trunk program.

This collection was donated to UPLINK by the Spies Public Library at the community digitization event held in Stephenson in August 2022. The event was sponsored by the Menominee County Library and funded by the Michigan Humanities Council.
