Thursday, January 8, 1891 Slight Smash-Up A bad wreck occurred on the South shore near the suburbs of Eagle Mills, Tuesday, which delayed the 8:30 pm passenger one hour. As the early eastbound into the Eagle Mills station the hind truck of the last coach jumped off the track and ran along the rail of a side track until the twisted coach ran up against a flat car loaded with logs. When the car left the track the engineer was signalled and had slacked up speed sufficiently so that the wreck was confined to the derailed car. Those in the car at the time were badly frightened but none were injured. The damaged coach was detached from the train which then proceeded on to Marquette. A wrecking cars[sic] was dispatched to the place and had the track clear insided[sic] of two hours. |
