Source; Northwestern Lumberman, Oct. 18, 1890 p. 11 It seems likely that but a short time will elapse before all the upper peninsula will be grid-ironed by railroads. Railroad people of late seem to look more at the timber resources of the country to be traversed by their lines. The Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western has let a contract to Henry and Balch Co. of Minneapolis, to build the line of its present terminus at Interior, near Watersmeet, to Bruce's Crossing, a station on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic, near where the road crosses the Ontonagon river. This line will then tap some of the heaviest timbered parts of Ongonagon[sic] county and will doubtless have a heavy traffic in forest products. In all probability the Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western people will not be content with a terminus at Bruce's Crossing but will push for an outlet on Lake Superior, either at Houghton or Ontonagon |
