L'Anse sentinel (L'Anse, Mich.) Source: The L'Anse Sentinel L'Anse, L. S., Mi. October 22, 1892 Saturday Newtonville - A terrible accident occurred here Saturday night. As John and James Burns were driving through from Baraga to Chassell, on arriving here, turned into the mill yard and mistook the railroad track for the state road. Drove on and a half miles, when passenger train No. 7 dashed into them, killing both horses valued at $560, demolishing the wagon and killing James Burns instantly, while badly injuring John, as brother of the dceased. It is remarkable that the horses got into the track as they had to climb a five foot bank and afterwards walk a bridge 60 feet long. DSS and A Passenger |
