Source: The Duluth Evening Herald Saturday, November 26, 1892 The Road Completed The south shore Runs a Train Over its Own Tracks The South Shore tracks are now completed into the head of the lakes and the first coach arrived last evening bearing General Manager Fitch and Superintendent Philbin. On December 2 the first passenger train will arrive. It will be an excursion train containing business men from Marquette, Ishpeming, Negaunee and other cities in northern peninsula. The South Shore is giving this excursion and will take not bring them to Duluth at all. It looks very much as though the road is giving Duluth the "go by". The excursionists will arrive in Superior Friday and will return home Sunday. Why Is This Thus? The Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic road has completed laying of its own rails to the head of Lake Superior, and will celebrate the event by giving an excursion to the business men of Marquette, Ishpeming and other cities. it is announced that they will be brought to Superior bu not to Duluth: The Herald cannot underst and why the management of the South Shore road should leave Duluth out of its excursion itenerary. Such gross stupidity is astonishing. If the South Shore people have any grievance against Duluth, the people of this city are ignorant of its cause. They know not wherein they have offended. But as matters now st and they will have a big trievance against the South Shore road, and they will not neglect to act according to their feelings.
