Iron ore (Ishpeming, Mich.) Source: Iron Ore Ishpeming, Mi. June 27, 1891 Saturday Ore Freights The following upon this subject is from the Chicago Herald of Saturday last. The C and NW is meeting with severe competition on the part of the DSS and A, an American road owned by the CPR, on ore shipments from the Marquette range. Yesterday the board of commissioners of the Western Traffic Association authorized the C and NW to reduce rates if necessary to maintain equal tariffs between the two companies. The board urges an amicable settlement of hte matter and will not allow any reductions to be made until Jul 1. The WC and the MLS and W claim that the lower rates from the Marquette range vill discriminate against the Gogebic range in the eastern ore markets of force them to make similar reductions.
