Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. January 5, 1889 Will Succeed Mr. Sedgwick. Mr. John J. Connoly, assistant superintendent of motive power and machinery on the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley R. R., at Missouri Valley, Ia., arrived in the city Wednesday, and later in the day was looking over the South Shore shops with Mr. Edw. V. Sedgwick, whose resignation takes effect on the 15th inst., and on that date it is understood that Mr. Connoly will be appointed as his successor. Mr. Connoly is a brother-in-law of Mr. N. Barth, and were he to remain in the present position until June would complete his 22nd year with the Chicago and Northwestern R'y. He began his railroad life in Chicago, but soon sent to Escanaba, where he remained for over eighteen years, during fourteen of which he was foreman of the roundhouse there, and had charge of the great ore equipment of the Peninsular division. A little over two years ago he resigned at Escanaba to accept a position on another branch of the C. and N.W. system, the F., F. and M.V., under Mr. Fitch, the present general manager of the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic. In appearance Mr. Connoly is a very fine looking man, in the prime of life, and is destined to add many new friends in Marquette to the scores of old ones who greeted him Wednesday. C and NW DSS and A
