January 5, 1889 The Tail and the Dog The recent change of time on the DSS and A necessitated by changes on the connecting lines at St. Ignace, was not followed by a satisfactory change on the Mineral Range road, and as, in consequence, passengers and mails have a layover there is considerable kicking in the copper country. The idea seems to be that the Mineral Range Tail should wag the South Shore dog, and as the Mineral Range will not start its evening trains a half hour later, that the DSS and A should remodel its train schedule. The South Shore train now arrives at Houghton at the earliest possible hour considering the time at which at must leave St. Ignace in order to connect with its eastern connections there. Every possible effort was made in planning the new time card to accommodate the people living along the line, and it is believed that this [*has] been done to an unusual degree. It would perhaps do a little good if the copper country people put the usual upper peninsula energy into a Mineral Range kick instead of "lamming" it to the South Shore. DSS and A MR Passenger |
