December 15, 1888 Saturday The DSS and A has issued the following: "The DSS and A will buy, on and after December 1, 1888, hemlock railroad cross ties delivered on the line of the road, until further notice and will pay 16 [*cents] each." Truly the South Shore must be getting hard up when they have the gall to ask honest labor to furnish hemlock timber, cut up into ties and pay a team $4 a day to deliver it, at such rates. Why it's a disgrace to the company and a slur to the laboring man. They didn't make wages at 22 [*cents] last year. Wonder if the railroad expects the homesteaders to give away their stumpage? Not much. |
