April 24, 1890 Thursday p.8 c. 1 Accident to Alfred Thurlby Alfred Thurlby, line repairer for the South Shore's telegraph was quite seriously hurt yesterday by the carelessness of an awkward workman. A party of men, under Mr. Thurlby's charge were placing some poles in the lower yard. Thurlby stood at the foot of the pole and as it dropped into place a workman let a long lifting pipe fall on on *[to] his head. He was knocked insensible and lay unconscious for some time bleeding produsely *[profusely] from an ugly scalp would *[wound]. He was able to walk home and it is believed the skull is not fractured but he certainly had a narrow escape. |
