August 18, 1888 Saturday James McMillan when asked about his connection with upper peninsula l and grants said: The H and O has been granted l and s on condition that it complete the road from L'Anse to Ontonagon, there is no money in building the road without the l and grant. The DSS and A owns the H and O and therefore its l and grant rights. However, there is no present idea of building the road, so there is no l and grant question to come up. If congress shall pass a forfeiture bill that will be an end to the whole matter. I am not afraid that anyone's rights will be taken away. Moreover, the CPR has not bought the DSS and A. Certain gentlemen in New York, who are interested in the CPR, have bought an interest in the road. I am still president of it, however. H and O DSS and A |
