August 4, 1888 Saturday Practically Completed The extension of the DSS and A west to Iron River junction, where the road strikes the NP, is now ballasted throughout and the construction forces are at present engaged in smoothing up the road preparatory to turning it over to the operating department. The line has been built in the best possible manner and Mr. J. A. Latcha, who has had entire charge of the selection of the route and building of the road, has reason to feel proud of the results attained. At the end of this week the road will be in shape for regular traffice [*traffic] to Iron River junction, though it is not yet decided whether the company will build into Duluth at once or use the NP from the junction for the present. At Thomasville the company has a large force at work building side tracks, roundhouses, shops and other structures needed at division headquarters. The water tanks along the extension are not all completed, but enuf [*enough] are in working order to permit the moving of trains whenever it shall be deemed advisable.
