June 7, 1888 Thursday Railroad Spikes Five of the new coaches for the DSS and A will leave the shops at Wilmington, Del., on the 9th. They will be very elegant in design and finish, the next thing in fact to Wagner cars. The railroad eating rooms at this station have been greatlyenlarged and improved and thoroughly refitted, furnishing the finest eating house accommodations on the line. Mr. Heppner is an experienced restaurant man and is becoming very popular with the traveling public. As all through trains stop here 15 or 20 minutes to change engines and crews there is an abundance of time given travelers to secure a good dinner or supper as the case may be. A fine new hoisting engine has been added to the hoisting equipment of the Marquette merch and ise pier. Seventy of the new pockets on No. 3 ore dock here are now in use, each having a capacity of 100 tons, while the new apparatus for h and ling the chutes results in a great saving in time in loading. The South Shore is figuring on three of the finest improved steam hoists for the coal dock here, and they may be in place before the season is much farther advanced. They will unload from both sides of the dock, and will keep four engines busy shifting cars, unloading from three hatches at the same time, taking out 1,000 tons in less than ten hours.
