Electronic reproduction of: Transcription of newspaper article from the Sunday morning star (Manistique, Mich.), Dec. 14, 1890. NEW RAILROADS -------------- The Upper Peninsula to be Grid-Ironed by Them. Activity in Railway Circles. New railroad projects spring to light almost daily in the rapidly developing Upper Peninsula. Already the Marquette and Menominee iron ranges are being gridironed by lines under actual construction. The Schlesinger syndicate is rapidly pushing its road northward to Ishpeming. The Huron Bay railway is nearing completion and will establish a new ore shipping port. The fond dreams of W.L. Wetmore, of Marquette, who twenty years ago sought to build a line from Manistique to Negaunee, and who paid $20,000 of his own money for the survey, are about to be realized by the construction of the Lake Superior railway that will connect the Weston furnace at Manistique directly with the Marquette iron range. Other railroad enterprises are also being pushed rapidly forward. The Chicago and North Western are seeking for a Marquette terminus and the D.S.S. and A. will no doubt deem it advisable to procure an outlet on Lake Michigan.
