December 8, 1887 Thursday DSS and A Officials at Duluth General superintendent Watson, and General Traffic Manager Orr, of the DSS and A, have been making their first visit to Duluth. Mr. Watson reports 300 miles of their road in operation, the track laid on 90 miles more, and 75 miles in addition ready for the track. It is the present purpose of the company to build their road to a connection with the NP at Iron River, about 40 miles east of Duluth, and for a time to use the NP track from that point in, although they comtemplated [* contemplated] building an independent line, but whether they do or not the DSS and A will run its cars into Duluth by the 4th of next July. Asked whether it was true that his company proposed taking an interest in the Red Wing, Mr. Watson said he had little knowledge of the intention's [* intentions] of the company, except as to the work he had in h and , but he has seen a newspaper report that Mr. McMillan proposed to take a large block of stok [* stock] of that company, and if he did it would result in the road being built. -Duluth Tribune |
