Marie, Chippewa County, Mi. December 1, 1887 Thursday Railroad Celebration For several weeks previous to the arrival of the DSS and A, the Democrat endeavored to arouse enthusiasm enough among the inhabitants of the Sault to make the necessary preparations for an appropriate celebration of the first train. Every possible reminder of the years of anticipation and watching of the great event were given out. The fact that the Sault from the time the last spike was driven, ceased to hibernate was dwelled upon, but with no effect. This was the time for a celebration - but those who should have taken the matter in h and were sleeping still and nothing was done. We trust that the arrival of the "Soo" and completion of the CPR some kind of jubilee will be had, and we suggest the uniting of the two Saults in one gr and celebration of the "iron tie that binds."
