April 16, 1887 Saturday In Railway Circles The consolidation of the Marquette and Mackinac and MH and O to form a part of the DSS and A is rapidly becoming an accomplished fact and on the first of May the two roads will be known by the new name. Business is all ready being secured for them in the east and other quarters under the name of the DSS and A. The announcement of the retirement of John Hornby as general manager of the MH and O was authentic and on May 1 Andrew Watson will assume the management of both roads constituting all of the DSS and A in actual operation. Mr. E. W. Allen, the assistant secretary and assistant treasure [* treasurer] of the DSS and A with offices in Marquette will also be the general passenger agent of the line, besides having charge of the money department. George S. Hobbs will continue in his present position, transacting the auditor's work on the line as chief clerk; W. B. McCombs will act as cashier and paymaster, and E. F. A. Rankin will remain in the passenger department as chief clerk. Mr. William Orr, for some time secretary of the Western and Middle States Traffic Association of Chicago will soon arrive in this city to take the position of general freight agent of the new line. He will assume the duties of his position on May 1. The lease of the MH and O by the DSS and A for 99 years bears date of February 15 and the books of the new road will be made up back to that date. After May 1 all business will be transacted under the name of the DSS and A. The changes consequent upon the consolidation are rapidly becoming known and it is probable that more announcements will soon be made. M and M MH and O DSS and A |
