April 16, 1887 Saturday The Consolidation Approaching The most important change in railroad circles at present is the placing of the MH and O and the M and M under one management, general manager John Hornby having tendered his resignation to take effect May 1, and Andrew Watson, superintendent of the M and M, having been selected as his successor. This will place the two roads under one management, practically consolidating them as part of the DSS and A. Mr. Watson's ability and fitness as a railroad manager have been freely demonstrated on the DM and M and other roads. While the consolidation of the roads has been expected for some time, the Mining Journal regrets the fact that the change results in the withdrawal of Mr. Hornby, a gentleman who has been deservably popular with all classes in his management of the MH and O and who has put the road and its equipment in splendid condition throughout. His administration of the road has been most successful, while his many acts of courtesy and kindness in his official capacity have been thoroughly appreciated by the public at large.
