Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi September 17, 1887 A Busy Place First, Jacobs and Co.'s quarry at south Marquette is about the busiest place in the city now. Over a hundred men are employed in or about the quarry and the mill for sawing the brownstone is run night and day, while the force in the quarry itself works 2 1/2 hours every night after supper, making a pretty long day of it. The DSS and A has recently put in a new track to the quarry and there is now a switch at the mill and another to the quarry itself, greatly facilitating the moving of the stone. The old switch will be taken up as soon as the stone piled by it for shipment has been loaded into cars and taken away. there is a huge mass of it yet to be shipped. Within the last few days a new boiler has been placed in the quarry engine house, at a cost of about $1,200, while another big derrick has been placed in position. The outfit of the quarry is now of the best in every particular, and the work of shipping the famous Marquette stone is being pushed as never before. DSS and A Stations - Marquette
