Electronic reproduction of: Transcription of newspaper article from the Mining journal (Marquette, Mich.), Sep. 17, 1887. Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi September 17, 1887 The Burtis Mill George L. Burtis has made arrangements with the railway for the storage of half a million feet of lumber on the company's dock NO. 3, and will send the green lumber directly from the saw to the dock on cars for piling. He now has 9 million feet of lumber piled on his docks and in the mill yard awaiting shipment. In the consequence of this, the mill has been put on half time, the men continuing to receive full wages. This and the use of the railroad dock have been items of great expense to Mr. Burtis, but it is expected that the Nester lumber will be moved this week, Mayor Nester having chartered the John Pringle and consorts to take it below. This will free the dock somewhat and greatly help the mil for the balance of the season. DSS and A " - Dcok No. 3 |
