September 3, 1887 Saturday A misplaced switch yesterday noon caused a heavy coal train caming up the cut leading from the merch and ise dock to run into a lot of empty coal cars st and ing on a cut in the siding, waiting to be run down on the dock to load coal. The emptys were piled up in the cut in great confusion and a number badly smashed by the collision. It is said that the engineer of the train was so enraged by the accident that he jumped down from his cab and proceeded to put a "head" on the man whose interference with the switch caused the smash. |
