Electronic reproduction of: Transcription of newspaper article from the Northwestern lumberman (Chicago, Ill.), Aug. 27, 1887. Source: Northwestern Lumberman, August 27, 1887 The rate at which railroad construction this year is absorbing mill product is well illustrated in the Lake Superior region. The purchasing agent of one of the lines being constructed through the upper peninsula, probably the DSS and A Ry., states he has purchased 51,000,000 feet of timber and lumber to be used by the company for which he is operating. This is as much as one of our great mill concerns cuts in a year, says Kirby-Carpenter Co. of Menominee. It can be plainly seen that the total mileage under construction in the United States is absorbing a large proportion of this years mill product. Logging - General DSS and A Ry. CJBajema |
