Electronic reproduction of: Transcription of newspaper article from the Mining journal (Marquette, Mich.), Mar. 5, 1887. ource: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. March 5, 1887 Saturday The Florence Mining News has it on the highest authority that the contract for the construction of the MSSM and A from Saunder's Point to the "Soo" will be let within the next 30 days and that work on that portion of the road will be pushed vigorously from the time of letting the contract until its completion. The News states further that, "it was thought by all that this would not be built beyond Saunders' [*] Point during 1887, but the active operations of the DSS and A have proven a stimulus. The Minneapolis people are determined now to get to the "Soo" by the time the Duluth people get there, if possible. But they will have hard work, as the Duluth road has a great deal less mileage to construct on account of using the DM and M. |
