March 3, 1887 Thursday Something of An Order The DSS and A placed its first order for rolling stock for its new lines, and the order includes 20 Mogul engines from Brooks Locomotive Works; also three mammoth steam shovels. The line when completed gives another direct transcontinental route connecting with the NP near Ashlund and the MC at the straits. The work is being pushed rapidly on the Sault division by 500 men, while O'Reilly and Co., and Henry and Balch[*] have commenced on the contracts west of Marquette. |
