Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. November 27, 1886 Arrangements Completed Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Detroit, Nov. 22, - James H. McMillan returned from New York to-day after organizing The Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic railroad. The Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette and Marquette, Houghton and Ontonagon railroads have been bought, and with the Michigan Central will form a new line to the seaboard. Connection will be made at Ashland with the Northern Pacific, the Marquette, Houghton and Ontonagon being extended to that point. The final agreement with the Michigan Central was consummated to-night. That road will construct an immense steamer for use as a transfer boat at the Straits of Mackinac. The object of the new route is to make a short cut from the northwest to the seaboard.
