November 20, 1886 Saturday The First Party Gone The first party of the DSS and A surveying parties to be sent out from this city left Monday under charge of Mr. George Marsh, the engineer of the first, division west of Three Lakes. There were eighteen or twenty in the party, which was composed of Mr. Marsh and his assistant engineers, a number of axemen and more than the usual quota of packers. The party is to work west as rapidly as possible, and for this reason extra packers were taken along to expedite camp moving. The men were all in fine spirits and seemed to like the appearance of the engineer in charge. It will be months before the party finishes its labors and returns to Marquette |
