November 20, 1886 The Genesis or an Exodus Affairs are stirring at the union depot these days, owing to the departures from the city of numerous gangs of men for the logging camps and for the line of The DSS and A. Fifty men left with Mr. Gary Monday morning for Republic where he is opening a new logging camp for Timothy Nester. At noon some twenty more men departed under the charge of Mr. George Marsh, one of the engineers engaged in the construction of the new road for Three Lakes, to engage in surveying work. Many of the men were no doubt dock h and s, who, now that the shipping season is nearly at an end, seek other employment, but the solemn fact stares us in the face all the same, that if this exodus continues, our citizens will have plenty of healthy exercise clearing their walks this winter, as the city bids fair to be depopulated. |
