Electronic reproduction of: Transcription of newspaper article : Northwestern Lumberman (Chicago, Ill.), Mar. 14, 1885. Source: Northwestern Lumberman, March 14, 1885 The Duluth and Winnipeg l and grant has been transferred to Brainerd and Northwestern RR. Co., by an act of the MN [Minnesota] legislature. The righteouness of the transfer was based on the fact that the D and W Co., has expended $300,000 in preliminaries while it has built no road and has no prospect of building any, while the B and NW Ry., guaranteed to go ahead with construction at once. The object of the grant was to encourage the opening up a portion of MN that now is inaccessible to transportation [ and ] thus to induce settlement. |
