February 27, 1892 At The Hawley Mill The Clevel and Saw Mill and Lumber company expects to start up its big Dead river mill by April 15. There will be no trouble with logs this spring as it will not be necessary for the mill to wait for the drive on the head waters of the river to reach the hoist where logs are loaded onto cars on the Dead River railroad. The logs cut on sections 4 and 8 this winter, are being dumped into the river right at the hoist, hence the logging trains can be put on as early as desired. There are three millions from section 4 and four millions from section 8, making seven millions at the hoist for a starter, besides those already on h and at the mill. More trains will be put on this year and the logs rushed right down with the spring freshet so that the trouble experienced last fall, when the city suffered such annoyance at its electric light plant, will be avoided in the future. Last year six log trains a day were worked while this spring it is expected that ten or twelve trains will be run daily. The stock of lumber at the mill has all been sold. Two million feet were sold last December and though an attempt was made to get a fleet up to take it down it was too late in the season, hence the lot was left to be moved with the opening of navigation this year. During the winter John Dalzell, of Detroit, bought the best grades, remaining in the mill yard, 750,000 feet, and a short time ago the yards were entirely cleaned out by the sale of hte balance, 1,500,000 feet to John Strewart, of Buffalo. This means that with the opening of navigation that there will be a rush of lumber carriers to port. DR Lbr DSS and A
