Concrete at the Mackinac Bridge anchor pier (6 of 6)
Abstract/Description: | Concrete is placed in the lower areas of the anchor piers using tremmies (elephant trunk). This is a hopper/funnel device with a hose attached used to place materials where desired by gravity. Once these areas had served their purpose they were filled with concrete. This will contribute to the calculated mass (weight) as engineered to support the suspension bridge. |
