Moving tower caisson for the Mackinac Bridge (1 of 11)

Getting the caisson No. 19 section out of the assembly area and into the lake went much better than it did for No. 20. No. 20's hole was filled in. No. 19 was jacked up, placed on skids and in four hours was in the place where No. 19 had been launched from. The hole was then allowed to fill with water as the equipment opened the dam they had build across the channel to the lake. Caisson No. 19 was then towed to the straits., Electronic reproduction of photograph. The Mackinac Bridge 1954 - 1958. Mackinac Bridge Authority
