Tower caisson corral for the Mackinac Bridge
Abstract/Description: | Two of the four corrals designed to hold the tower caisson in place during descent. The legs are made of 20 inch steel pipe with spuds inside them. The spuds were driven to bedrock in order to contain the caisson and guide it. These devices were designed to withstand the forces of nature in the form of large waves and high winds. |
